The Educational Philosophy of ILHAM Dhaka International School
At ILHAM Dhaka International School, following the Cambridge curriculum, our early childhood education is rooted in a holistic Islamic framework that nurtures the mind, body, and soul. We aim to develop well-rounded individuals by integrating modern pedagogy with Islamic values and ethics from the very beginning. Our focus on physical, communicative, cognitive, and moral development ensures that students grow with strong character and purposeful learning. Through this approach, we prepare young learners to thrive both in this world and in the Hereafter based on the philosophy of the Qur’anic ayah: “Our Lord! Grant us the good of this world and the Hereafter and protect us from the torment of the Fire.” (Surah al-Baqarah, 2:201).
Hence, the Educational Philosophy of ILHAM Dhaka International School is Inspired by the Qur’an, Sunnah, and the Integrated Islamic Knowledge Framework.
CORE AREAS OF EARLY DEVELOPMENT
1. Physical and Health Development (النمو البدني والصحي)
We promote the idea that ‘Health is Wealth’ and firmly believe that healthy children grow up to be happier, stronger, and more successful. Moreover, we regard the health, well-being, and physical vitality of our students as an amanah (trust) from Allah, and therefore, we give it the highest priority. To support this vision, we take the following steps:
· Facilitate the development of gross and fine motor skills through purposeful play and physical training.
· Emphasize hygiene and cleanliness (ṭahārah) as foundational Islamic values and daily habits.
· Organize regular activities focused on physical exercise, mental wellness, and body–mind coordination.
· Ensure access to a qualified dentist, nutritionist, physician, and physical instructor who regularly monitor and support students’ dental care, nutrition, general health, and fitness.
· Teach students that their body is a gift (ni‘mah) from Allah, and maintaining it is a form of worship (‘ibādah).
2. Language and Communication Development (تنمية اللغة والتواصل)
We nurture students to become effective, polite, and purpose-driven communicators in the modern world, grounded in Islamic manners (adab) and values.
· Development in three core languages:
o Arabic – to access the Qur’an and Islamic heritage.
o English – for global communication and academic excellence.
o Bangla – to foster national identity and cultural grounding.
· Training in ICT-based communication, public speaking, and storytelling — especially stories from Islamic tradition.
· Promotion of personal, social, cultural, and professional communication skills, rooted in adab and akhlaq (Islamic manners and character).
· Teaching of Islamic expressions such as Salām, Bismillāh, Alḥamdulillāh, and the etiquettes of speech, listening, and dialogue.
3. Cognitive and Intellectual Development (التنمية المعرفية والعقلية)
At ILHAM Dhaka International School, we believe in nurturing the intellect (al-ʿAql) through an Islamic worldview that harmonizes reason (العقل) and revelation (الوحي). Hence,
• We focus on critical thinking, curiosity, early scientific inquiry, literacy, and numeracy skills.
• We apply the Integrated Islamic Knowledge Model (IIKM), ensuring every subject is taught alongside relevant Qur’anic ayat, Hadith, and Islamic ethical values. For example, when learning about ‘air pollution,’ students also explore what Islam teaches about protecting the environment.
• Inspired by scholars like Dr. Isma’il Raji al-Faruqi, we promote the Islamization of Knowledge — integrating traditional Islamic values with contemporary knowledge from the earliest stages of learning.
• This approach distinguishes IDIS as a truly Islamic International School.
4. Social, Emotional, and Ethical-Moral Development (التنمية الاجتماعية والعاطفية والأخلاقية)
Our students are nurtured to embody mature emotional intelligence, strong moral character, and prophetic manners.
• We focus on developing empathy, patience, gratitude, discipline, and teamwork.
• Emphasis is placed on practicing values—not just learning them theoretically.
• Students are encouraged to act on their knowledge, following the example of the Ṣaḥābah (companions of the Prophet PBUH), who prioritized action alongside learning.
• Active training in honesty, trustworthiness (amānah), sincerity (ikhlāṣ), and responsibility (mas’ūliyyah) is provided.
• We build a strong sense of ummah identity, cooperation, and leadership through purposeful activities and modeled behavior.
